Los Angeles: Literary City is a project by the English students of Fusion Academy LA.
California is home to one of the world’s most famous, important, stylish, expensive, beautiful, dirty, loving, cruel, exciting, and mundane places on earth. Los Angeles has it all, including one of the hemisphere’s richest and most cosmopolitan cultural landscapes.
Students chose from the list of the writing projects below, and then picked their topic, related to the “Los Angeles: Literary City” prompt.
- Option one: Complete a creative writing project about Los Angeles
- Write a creative piece that explores themes associated with Los Angeles and its culture
- The format is up to you:

- Monologue
- Letter to the city
- Ex: “Dear L.A…”
- Poetry
- Script/Screenplay
- Heck, write a novella
- Option two: Complete a research writing project about the history of Los Angeles
- Ask and answer a question about the history or culture of Los Angeles using careful research
- Should include:
- An introduction that provides context for the piece, at least three body paragraphs, and conclusion.
- At least 2 quoted sources
- A Full Works Cited
